Run/Stop of RED cameras on Carat

Hedén offers several ways to wirelessly start and stop recording on RED cameras with the Carat.

NOTE: run/stop cables for RED-cameras with Schmitt Trigger protocol will not work with the new YMER, these cables could damage the receiver. Do not connect!

One connector and two different protocols

Same connector for different protocols
Both the DMSC camera body and the expanders for the DMSC2 body uses the same 4-pin 00B LEMO connector, but there are different protocols.

Several versions of the protocol

RED Cameras with DSMC body
For cameras compatible with the Red DSMC 3.3V Schmitt Trigger protocol we have one type of run/stop cable.
With this Cable the Carat will supply a 3.3V signal to the camera when the run function is activated on the Carat and the signal will be 3.3V until the recording is stopped on the Carat.
This cable has a 4-pin half moon connector on the Carat side and a BNC female connector on the camera side. Requires breakout cable with BNC connector, found HERE.
Cable: AC-57 "RED 4-pin Schmitt Trigger r/s – CARAT"
Cable: 10128 "RED 4-pin Schmitt Trigger r/s – YMER"

RED Cameras with DSMC2 body
For the newer camera bodies RED have removed I/O from the camera body and run/stop function will be available with expanders.
Different expanders will use different protool, the Base Expander will still use the Schmitt Trigger Protocol with a 4-pin LEMO 00B connector.
For the other expanders the run/stop protocol has been updated to a more common protocol where start and stop is triggered by momentary grounding the circuit, called "Contact Closure Style Trigger Input"

Cables needed for the different RED expanders:

DSMC2 Base Expander:
R/S: run/stop on SYNC connector input 4-pin LEMO 00B with Schmitt Trigger Protocol
Cable: AC-57 "RED 4-pin Schmitt Trigger r/s – CARAT"
Cable: 10128 "RED 4-pin Schmitt Trigger r/s – YMER"

DSMC2 V-lock I/O Expander:
R/S: run/stop on SYNC connector input 4-pin LEMO 00B with Contact Closure Style Trigger Input
Cable: AC-58 "RED 4-pin Contact Closure r/s – CARAT / YMER"

DSMC2 Redvolt Expander:
R/S: no run/stop input available

DSMC2 Jetpack Expander:
R/S: run/stop on SYNC connector input 4-pin LEMO 00B with Contact Closure Style Trigger Input
Cable: AC-58 "RED 4-pin Contact Closure r/s CARAT / YMER"

DSMC2 Jetpack SDI Expander:
R/S: run/stop on SYNC connector input 4-pin LEMO 00B with Contact Closure Style Trigger Input
Cable: AC-58 "RED 4-pin Contact Closure r/s CARAT / YMER"

DSMC2 Tactical Top Plate:
R/S: run/stop on START/STOP connector input Fischer 3-pin 102 with Arri style Active Low to start/stop record
Cable: AC-16 "ARRI run/stop Cable"
